Homeopathy was introduced in India in the early 19th century. It flourished in Bengal at first, and then spread all over India. 31.05.1946, The Travancore Medical Council requested the Government to set up a Homeopathy Government Hospital for Children.

1957, the EMS Government decided to start the first Homoeopathy dispensary at the government level. 21.02.1959 the first Homeopathy Dispensary started functioning in the state of Kerala at East Fort, Thiruvananthapuram.

1960’s the first private Homoeopathic medical college was established at Kottayam with a 4 1/2 years diploma course.

IHMA being in functionality for the past many years has supported numerous activities in support of Homeopathy. An amalgamation of senior and junior Homeopathic physicians it blends new and old schools of Homeopathy on one platform. Its membership brings an advantage above other organisations as it enables its Homeopathic members to be part of national and international CME programs, its School of Homeopathy is one of its kind trains aspiring Homeopathic doctors for post graduate national level competitive MD entrance exams.

Members doctors can gain clinical experience at medical camps conducted as social initiatives in rural areas and indulge in research activities as well. As a united front it also supports state and national disaster relief works. One was evident during the COVID19 pandemic or during natural calamities like the one in Chennai 2023, IHMA has not only supported medically but financially as well.

Its newsletter the medical panorama is a platform where doctors could easily get their articles published and the social security scheme is one of its kind helping financially to the member’s family post the member has deceased. In the modern era of women empowerment, IHMA has supported activities of women Homeopathic doctors and promoted the IHMA women’s wing. Apart from academics and medical related activities the organization promotes cultural, sports and family get-togethers making IHMA not only an organization but a large family of Homeopathic doctors and their families.

IHMA has been a part in supporting state government challenges during human health crisis.

During the COVID 19 pandemic, IHMA was the only organization to have provided support of ARSENIC ALBUM 30 as a prophylactic medicine suggested by the central council of research in Homeopathy to the 1 lac personnel of the Maharashtra Police.

Even with a complete lockdown the medicine was transported from Kerala to Mumbai and then methodically distributed to the entire force. The activity got recognized by the director general of Maharashtra Police and the National Commission of Homeopathy as one of the recognized AYUSH initiatives towards COVID19 pandemic.
